Whether you void the warranty while performing the memory upgrade yourself will vary by region. I've used Crucial memory for years (15+) on all our Apple systems without any issues, but you must buy the exact parts the Crucial website recommends for your system. Macs are very picky about the memory they use and Crucial and OWC are the only two vendors the veterans on here will recommend. If you bring your own RAM, then the shop will not provide any warranty for you on the memory upgrade. Ask them about bringing your own RAM or having them order and install Crucial or OWC memory for you. You may be able to have an independent Apple Authorized Service Provider upgrade the RAM for you.
